Inter-State Drug Racket Busted: Nabarangpur Medicine Store Owner Arrested, Banned Capsules Worth ₹11 Lakh Seized
Nabarangpur: In a major crackdown on the illegal inter-state drug trade, the Chhattisgarh Police has arrested a prominent medicine store owner in Nabarangpur town. The accused, identified as Unna Ramakrishna, is the owner of ‘Shree Lakshmana Medical Store’ located in the JELC Complex.
Massive Haul of Banned Capsules
According to police reports, a raid was conducted on a house situated behind the medical store. During the search, officers recovered 12 boxes containing 2,848 Tramadol capsules, which are strictly regulated under the law. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately ₹11,39,200.
Connection to Chhattisgarh
The operation was led by Inspector Leeladhar Rathore of the Bodhghat Police Station in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. The investigation into a local drug case in Bastar revealed that the supply chain extended to Nabarangpur in Odisha. On Friday, the Chhattisgarh police team reached Nabarangpur, inspected the medical store, and seized the illegal stock before taking the owner into custody.
Case Registered Under NDPS Act
Bodhghat Police has registered a case against Unna Ramakrishna under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused was deeply involved in the illegal drug trade, supplying prohibited medications across state borders. Police are currently interrogating the accused to identify other members of this inter-state syndicate.
