Waterlogging Disrupts Life in Talcher’s Telisahi; Authorities Promise New Drain
TALCHER: Incessant rainfall has thrown normal life out of gear in the Harijan Sahi area of Deulabeda Telisahi village under the Talcher block, with rainwater inundating several homes.
The severe waterlogging has caused immense hardship for the local residents, bringing daily activities to a standstill. Villagers report significant difficulties in cooking, sleeping, and managing household chores, while children are unable to continue their studies due to the flooded conditions inside their homes.
Desperate for a resolution, the affected villagers reached out to local social worker Priyabrata Ray Choudhury. Taking immediate note of the crisis, Choudhury escalated the matter to the Talcher MLA. Discussions highlighted that the flooding was primarily caused by runoff water from the nearby Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) area entering the residential zone during heavy rains. It was concluded that constructing a new drainage system in Harijan Sahi is the only permanent solution to the crisis.
To resolve the issue, the local MLA held discussions with the General Manager of the MCL Lingaraj Area. Following this intervention, MCL authorities visited the affected neighborhood to assess the situation.
The authorities have successfully identified the site for the new infrastructure and have assured the distressed residents that the construction of a new drain will commence very soon, bringing much-needed relief to the village.
